Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta

The annual Cardboard Boat Regatta on Lake Sacajawea in Longview was held on Sunday, July 2, 2023, as part of the city’s Go 4th Festival. The Longview Bridge Club (LBC) has participated annually since 2012, the theme this year was Christmas in July. The 23 entries were a substantial increase from last year’s total that was impacted by recovery from the pandemic. The regatta was featured (as usual) by a full page article in the Longview Daily News.

This year, members and friends of the Longview Bridge Club designed, built and raced an entry named Scooter Santa under the guidance of Wayne Winther. Rowing the craft were Wayne, his son Larry, granddaughter Eva, and Dave Knoyle. It was very competitive, winning one heat, placing in another, and finishing third overall in the final. But most impressive was taking home a trophy for Pride of the Regatta!

We truly appreciate Wayne, his crew, members and friends of the Longview Bridge Club who helped build and decorate the boat.

And thanks again to Jan and Joe Trussell who hosted the after-race celebration party at their home.
