Region 12 Director Report

Jackie Zayac, Region 12 Director, ACBL Board of Directors

This has been a very busy and exciting Spring.  The ACBL Board of Directors hired Bronia Jenkins to become the new Executive Director of the ACBL.  She is enthusiastic, energetic, full of ideas and a great communicator.  I look forward to working with her as our organization climbs out of the pandemic days that are, hopefully, permanently behind us.

First and foremost on everyone’s minds is finding ways to build our membership.  The ACBL has pushed hard to get lapsed members to rejoin our ranks.  Its efforts have proven to be successful.  The month of April had the first positive increase in membership since the pandemic began and it was largely due to the reinstatement of lapsed members.

The ACBL will require proof of Covid-19 vaccinations at the Summer NABC in Chicago.  Beginning with the 2023 Fall NABC in Atlanta, Covid-19 vaccinations will no longer be required.  However, if someone at a table is properly masked and they ask you to wear a mask, you must wear a mask while at that table.  Failure to comply with an appropriate masking request will result in a penalty; please call the director.

ACBL Board committees have been meeting in advance of our Chicago meetings in July.  I have attended Governance Committee meetings and Membership Task Force meetings.  I have submitted a motion for consideration at our July meetings and I will share more about it with you after the meetings.

I am also serving as the President of the ACBL Charity Foundation.  The ACBL elections officer is now accepting applications for two (2) trustees to serve on the five (5) member ACBL Charity Foundation Board.  If you would be interested in serving as a trustee, please send your name, address, player number and biographical information by October 15, 2023 to:  elections@acbl.org.

I hope you all enjoy the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.  I hope to see you at a local bridge event (definitely Seaside) or at the Chicago NABC.

If you would like to discuss anything with me, please email me at jackiezayac@gmail.com

I hope you have a great summer.
