Lessons at Seaside

Susie Leo

Intermediate/Newcomer Coordinator

Bob Johnson at the Seaside Regional

Are you ready for the next peak at how to improve your bridge game

with the teachings of Bob Johnson?

As I mentioned in the last I/N article, free classes are taught at each of the regional tournaments. The classes are 45 minutes each morning from Tuesday through Friday. Bring your cup of coffee or tea along with the desire to stretch your bridge thinking.

We are lucky to have Bob Johnson from Portland as our presenter at Seaside. Who is he? Not sure you know him? Here is a little bit about Bob to show the wealth of bridge knowledge he has.

~He played his first game at 10 years old when his dad said, “Son, we need a fourth.”

~His is a retired professor emeritus from OHSU. Yes, he’s smart!

~He teaches ongoing classes at the Portland Bridge Club.

The second topic he plans to offer at Seaside is Catching Up with Cuebids. Huh? Here is a bit about this topic, according to Bob.

~Cuebids tend to be one of the least understood tools in our bidding arsenal.

~They show two things with one bid. Do you know what those are?

~How and when can we use them?

~It’s just plain fun to bid the opponent’s best suit!

Plan to grab a partner – or come alone – to the Seaside Regional. We will do our best to find you a partner if you come by yourself. You might even get stuck with me.

The Oregon Coast Regional is Monday, September 30 – Sunday, October 6, 2024.

I wish you joy and gratitude for this great game called bridge.
