Jaci Bohms and Renee Arnold – Life Masters

Our Journey to Life Master
by Jaci Bohms

Thank you for the email and congrats (on becoming Life Master)….I couldn’t have done it without my long-time friend, Renee Arnold.  She has been with me all the way.  After I retired in 2007, we saw that they were offering Bridge lessons at our local community college (neither of us had played before).  Renee and I decided to try it out and had a wonderful teacher, Diane Barnes,  who started us on our long and not-to-serious journey to achieving life master….after some 18 years we completed the goal, having so much fun along the way.  We were able to travel to local sectionals and regionals with great partners to help us earn those elusive silver and gold points, a BIG thank you to each and every one who helped us along the way (and our husbands for supporting us).  We played in Seaside, Corvallis, Eugene, OR and Vancouver, WA, all the venues were top notch, and we always had so much fun even when we weren’t doing well.  To cap off our journey we were honored to be selected to attend the nationals held in New Orleans in 2023 with support from our local bridge club in Newport, OR and the National ACBL helping to pay our expenses (thank you so much).   Although the competition was tough and we didn’t do well, we really enjoyed the experience and of course, the food (see photo).

I hope that the younger folks will be inspired to keep the game going and enjoy the camaraderie that we have experienced during our journey…so many nice people and memories along the way.
