Judy Davis of Beaverton OR died unexpectedly on October 4 after a brief battle with cancer that was unfortunately not properly diagnosed for almost one year. Judy was a former District 20 tournament manager and the last person to manage all four mainland regional events. She did an excellent job. A Ruby Life Master, Judy did not return to F2F play after COVID, preferring to play on BBO. She will be missed.
Her brother posted the following on Facebook: On Wednesday, October 4 2023 my sister and only sibling, Judy Davis passed away unexpectedly. Judy had been dealing with a painful open sore on the bottom of her tongue for almost a year. Dentists and doctors dismissed it as not being cancer but couldn’t come up with a diagnosis. Judy continued to wade through the medical insurance morass and dismissive medical concerns until she was able to see a new oral surgeon in early August who correctly diagnosed the sore as cancer. She had been receiving intensive radiation treatment in September and had started intravenous immunotherapy treatment. Surgery was scheduled in mid-November. Throughout her ordeal, including weight loss, pain, difficulty speaking, eating, and swallowing, she remained hopeful and optimistic. She had no interest in looking backward at what could have been done, she only wanted to look forward at what could be done. She was very independent and was always concerned about the needs of others over her own needs. Her sudden death has shocked her treating physicians and her family.John Lusky – Platinum Life Master
