Player Spotlight – William (Bill) Geary

Dr. William (Bill) Geary started playing bridge as a teenager, joining the ACBL as a college student at UC Irvine. He won about one masterpoint and then had a multi-decade bridge moratorium.

In 2022, Bill reinvigorated his bridge playing on Maui, where he plays with Bill Heck, another California transplant. Bill and Bill had both been athletes in their younger days and shared philosophies about sportsmanship and competition.

His 43 points won in 2022 tied Bill for first in District 20 in the 5-20 point category. All his points were earned at the Maui Bridge Club in Kihei.

Bill said, “…the bottom line is having fun. Bridge is a challenge and something at which we can still improve, but it’s only a game.”
