President’s Corner – January 2024

Happy New Year, everyone!!

How about this for a New Year’s resolution? Sometime in the next calendar year, commit to bringing one new player to one of your local face-to-face club games. How hard can that be? One person over the course of this year. Maybe it’s someone new to bridge. Maybe it’s someone who hasn’t played in some time. You can make a difference.

We welcome Ruth Johnson as the new Area 6 Rep. Ruth is the representative for Seaside, Tillamook, and the Central Oregon Coast. Thanks, Ruth, for stepping up.

We also welcome Kevin Kacmarynski who was recently elected as Area 8 Rep serving the folks in Eugene-Springfield, Albany-Corvallis, and Salem. Welcome, Kevin. And thanks to Dennis Harms for his service.

Speaking of Dennis Harms, he has graciously agreed to serve as our Education Liaison. We have not had anyone in that position for way too long and we are most appreciative of Dennis for volunteering. He has some great ideas and plans. Thanks, Dennis.

The Oregon Trail Regional is coming up fast … Feb 19–25. This is a great event with a wonderful playing site. We are hoping for no snow storms this year.

We are adding a third regional this year in addition to Seaside and OTR. May 13–19 are the dates for the Bend-Redmond Regional. We have a wonderful playing space inside the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center. There are several lodging options near the fairgrounds. For you newer players, expert player Jeff Roman has agreed to do a series of lessons for us. I attended a couple of Jeff’s sessions last year and they are excellent. If you want to improve your game, you would be well-advised to consider Jeff’s classes.

As always, I continue to be impressed with the level of commitment and level of competency of so many folks who make all this possible. Thanks to everyone.

Warmest,

Don Marsh
